M.K. Nobilette Becomes First Openly Gay Contestant on American Idol

M.K. Nobilette made “American Idol” history on Wednesday by becoming the first openly gay contestant on the singing competition show.
The 20-year-old woman, who earned a spot in the show’s Top 30, told the judges, “I’m very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me, but I think that in the last two years there have been a lot of things that have really changed that.”
“The world is changing,” said Jennifer Lopez , who added, “We think you could be an American Idol.”
Harry Connick Jr. also noted, “You belong here.”
